What is the first stage of getting a product made?All projects start with a NDA and a meeting to ensure your idea is protected from the very start. The inital meeting will go over your concept and goals from the project so that we can give you the best personalised quote. From there the project will be broken up into 4 phases and a timeline so that you know exactly what is happening and when.

Can you provide your services remotely?All design and development can be handled remotely. With online CAD sharing / viewing and next day delivery on in-house developed prototypes, design has never been so quick and efficient.

What equipment do you have?We have a suite of high end equipment for designing, prototyping and batch manufacturing your products. This includes state of the art large bed 3D printers that can print items up to 600 x 600 x 600mm. We also have a large bed CNC machine, laser cutter, high quality resin 3D printers, vacuum casting equipment, electronic PCB hardware and more. If there is something highly specialist that we don't have in-house, we have a range of partnered companies both in the UK and abroad who can offer any service that you may need. Can I just get a prototype made?Yes! We offer in house prototyping in a range or materials. If you are looking to just get a prototype made from a previous project just give us a call.

How can I protect my idea?We always start each project with an NDA, this protects your idea and any intellectual property. Once we have discussed and developed your idea, we will work with our preferred patent agency to best protect the product and its function. Are you a limited company?Yes! We are a limited company, registered with Companies House in the UK as BATES PRODUCT DESIGN LTD, Company number 15119882.

What software do you use for product design?We use a variety of software tools for product design, including Autodesk Fusion 360, and SolidWorks for 3D CAD modeling, AutoCAD for 2D drafting, and Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design and presentations. Each tool is selected based on the specific needs of the project to ensure the best results. We also utilise a range of AI tools to speed up the development process allowing you to hit market sooner, and to reduce development costs.

Who owns the IP if developing a product?The client will always own all design IP generated through a project unless an alternative agreement has been made separately.

How much does designing a product cost?The cost depends on many factors including the complexity of the product, if it requires any special manufacturing processes, or if it requires electronic design. We usually split project costs into 4 phases, each of which can be paid separately to reduce the risk and initial investment required to design a product. These phases are: Concept Design, Detail Design, Prototyping and Manufacturing. Get in touch for a free product consultation and quotation.

What options are available for clients with limited funds to develop a product?We offer very cost-effective design solutions, including design sprints and prototyping to help raise funding with investors as well as crowdfunding. Additionally, we can assist with writing grant applications to secure further funding for your project.
